LÅNGSJO: TEATER

welcome to our site

Lågsjö teater is a touring theatre company based in Gnesta, Sweden. Founded in 2012 by Kristina Sahlberg, Jonatan Ed and Maria Magdolna Beky Winnerstam, the Company now is led by Artistic Director Maria Magdolna Beky Winnerstam working closely together with Annika Lykta, David Carmel and Jonatan Ed.

The Company has created 6 productions and played for over 4000 children touring in the Swedish region Sörmland and Stockholms län but also played for adult audiences at the Royal Swedish Academy of Science, at the Almedalen political week and also at Stockholm Fringe Festival.

Långsjö teater started off as a collective and today co-creative processes, openness and curiosity are the core qualities of the Company´s work. The Company is known for working close to interdisciplinary sustainability research and also for having a longer period of time of own research before each production. The artistic language of the Company is complex embodying and experimenting with various disciplines as storytelling, clown and mask, live music, kathakali and other body work. The performances often have an improvisational and interactive part where each audience of each performance has the chance to receive a unique experience. The visual aesthetics of the productions have until now been inspired by kathakali costumes and original forms of theatre.

The Companys exploration and searching for new insights is currently leading to collaborations with new artists and performers; exploring new aesthetics of trash that can be made precious, exploring dance as a detailed expression and discussions of intention, digital music expression, lighting and video work.

Långsjö teater aims to be a creative platform that is open to various kinds of collaborations and develop actor-led processes and productions.

Långsjö teater has a a small but cosy performance space situated in Lokstallet in Gnesta. Artists, dancers and performers are welcome to come and use the space for research, rehearsals or shows.

Creative processes

Art & Science

Our work with researchers is a central part of our creative processes. The future of our Planet, the human-nature connection in the accelerating pace of societies is a deeply puzzling reality and it is something we deeply care about. Through interacting with researchers we have seen that in order to enhance any kind of transformation, sustainability science needs to reach out, to be heard and also be open to the rest of society. Experimenting with alternative interactions between science and society we create processes where researchers and other stakeholders have the possibility to re-formulate and co-create complex contents into simpler forms. We work with a narrative framework and apply various kinds of performative tools, such as physical movement or storytelling in these interactions/workshops.

Workshops for children

There are two major themes that we work with when interacting with children: narrative practices and sustainability issues. We tailor workshops for different age groups that are based on a high level of creative participation while listening to and exchanging ideas.

Several of us have both theoretical knowledge and practical pedagogical experience as well as extensive experience of working with people with disabilities.

For further information please contact us.

Workshops for groups

We have experience in designing and facilitating processes for various and mixed groups of stakeholders including municipality staff, teachers and researchers. In our work, appart from narrative practices, we apply theoretical and practical frameworks of social work, drama communication, psychology and pedagogics. We tailor workshops for various purposes: establishing and enhancing communication between groups, preparation and co-creation of vision or mapping conflict of interests/approaches.

Residency

Right now we are developing the concept for our residency. Our aim is to invite artists, mostly in the field of performing arts, and let them use our theatre space in Lokstallet in Gnesta for research and experiment. Our vision is to meet, learn and interact with other artists and make it possible for audiences to experience artists´work-in-progress processes.
